…Bowman Lusambo attempts to hide from police in the ceiling of his house after conviction
Former Lusaka Province Minister and Kabushi member of parliament Bowman Lusambo was found hiding in the ceiling of his house, the police have reported.
Lusambo, the former Patriotic Front strongman and self-proclaimed bulldozer could not muster the strength to face the long arm of the law, which has caught up with him after his party fell from power.
Convicted in absentia yesterday of unlawfully wounding a political opposite at the time in Luanshya, Lusambo was arrested today at his residence as the police executed a bench warrant against him.
Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga explained that in line with its duty to uphold court directives, the Zambia Police Service commenced an immediate search for Mr. Lusambo to effect the court’s order.
“Today, officers successfully located and apprehended Mr. Lusambo at his residence, where he was found hiding in the ceiling,” Hamoonga disclosed.
It was alleged that Lusambo, in 2019, attacked a member of the opposition National Democratic Congress with a machete and inflicted severe head and facial injuries. The victim, 58-year-old Stanley Musukwa, later died.
Luanshya Resident Magistrate Chiluba passed the judgment yesterday in Lusambo’s absence. The former vocal minister and lawmaker was not in court, purporting ill-health. However, Magistrate Chilubi proceeded to convict as the judgment should have initially been made on September 9 but Lusambo failed to appear even then. His lawyer legal counsel had since withdrawn representation.
He is now in police custody and will be presented to the court for sentencing, as directed, said Hamoonga.
Beyond a shadow of himself, it’s almost incredible that the towering figure who terrorized citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic could today be hauled out of the cramped darkness of his ceiling.
