Health authorities at Nchanga North General Hospital report that the condition of the two survivors from a recent mine accident is stable. The incident, which occurred at the COP 5 Dumpsite in Chingola, tragically claimed the lives of eight illegal miners.
Acting Principal Nursing Officer Mariana Mweetwa stated that the survivors are responding well to treatment and are no longer in immediate danger. Initially, they arrived at the hospital in pain and a confused state, but their condition has since improved.
Mweetwa noted that one of the survivors will undergo an X-ray to assess for potential fractures.
The collapse at the dumpsite highlights ongoing safety concerns in illegal mining operations in the area.
