Dr. John Phiri, the former Zambian High Commissioner to Malawi, has passed away. He died this morning at Maina Soko Military Hospital in Lusaka at the age of 75.
Dr. Phiri had a distinguished political career, serving as Minister of General Education during the Patriotic Front (PF) government. He also held the position of Minister of Local Government and was a nominated Member of Parliament. In 2016, he declared his intention to run for the Lundazi Central parliamentary seat under the PF ticket.
After failing to secure the PF’s nomination for the 2021 elections, Dr. Phiri defected to the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND).
Funeral arrangements for the late Dr. Phiri are currently being finalized.
