More than 60 locally manufactured and imported food products in Zambia will be withdrawn from the market if they fail to meet compulsory safety and quality standards from today onwards.
The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has launched its 2024 national open market surveillance (OMS) inspections, which will cover nine provinces across the country. The initiative targets 61 products, including food, beverages, animal feed, chemicals, engineering products, and various household items.
Brian Hatyoka, the acting manager of ZCSA’s communications and public relations, confirmed that inspections will focus on both locally produced and imported goods, with an emphasis on adherence to national standards. The scope of the inspection also includes household electrical appliances, fertilizers, used textiles, and more, with checks being conducted in the Eastern, Central, Lusaka, Southern, Western, Copperbelt, North-Western, Muchinga, and Northern provinces.
The move is part of ZCSA’s ongoing effort to ensure consumer safety and product compliance across Zambia’s marketplace.
