Zambia’s trade with China has surpassed $2 billion, marking a significant milestone in the two nations’ economic partnership, Minister of Commerce, Trade, and Industry Chipoka Mulenga announced.
Speaking at the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, Mulenga highlighted that investments from Chinese enterprises in Zambia have exceeded $3 billion, with over 500 companies providing employment to 50,000 Zambians.
Mulenga emphasized the role of international cooperation in spurring economic growth, noting that China’s Duty-Free Quota-Free scheme has facilitated Zambia’s export diversification, with products like soya beans, stevia, and honey now reaching global markets.
The minister also underscored the importance of Chinese investment in Zambia’s energy sector, focusing on a balanced approach that includes solar, wind, thermal, and hydroelectric power projects.
