Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah of the ruling South West Africa People’s Organisation (Swapo) has been elected as Namibia’s first female president following last week’s contentious election.
The electoral commission reported that she received over 57% of the votes, while her nearest competitor, Panduleni Itula, garnered 26%.
However, due to logistical issues and a three-day extension of voting in certain areas, Itula announced on Saturday that his party would not acknowledge the results, citing claims of electoral misconduct.
