Too Much Hypocrisy & Lies Amongst Zambian Politicians — ECL

Must read

Former Republican President Edgar Chagwa Lungu says there is widespread hypocrisy and untruthfulness amongst politicians in Zambia today.

Lungu who is leader of the new Tonse Alliance, says it is the responsibility of the church to rebuke politicians who derive pleasure in hypocrisy and dishonesty.

“There is a lot of hypocrisy, insincerity, deception and lies amongst us as politicians and we look to you, the church, to help emancipate us from the lies and hypocrisy that has taken root in this country,” Lungu said.

Lungu urged the church to be firm and frank with politicians regardless of whether in the ruling or opposition political space.

“So if I won’t speak truthfully here then I have betrayed myself and wasted my time. I want the church to stand up and be truthful to those of us in opposition and those in power,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lungu complained that the church has not been as firm with Republican President Hakainde Hichilema as compared to when he was in power.

“Some of you were very strong and candid when you were dealing with me when I was president but why have you lost that steam to deal with our president? I am not saying you should insult him but just speak with him in truth so that we fight this scourge of hypocrisy, debauchery and falsehood which has become rampant,” he added.

Lungu was speaking this afternoon when he visited the Christians Fellowship in Kawambwa where he is currently holding a series of political meetings to drum up support for Tonse Alliance candidate in the upcoming parliamentary by-elections Danstan Mwansa.
