A 22-year-old student, Muyunda Mwangala, has pleaded not guilty to unlawful possession of a protected trophy, a live tortoise.
The alleged offense took place on November 12, 2024, in Lusaka.
Mwangala is accused of possessing the tortoise without a valid license or permit.
A resident of Rock Field Chalala, he is charged under the Zambia Wildlife Act No. 14 of 2015 and Statutory Instrument No. 41 of 2016.
Magistrate Mwandu Sakala has set January 23, 2025, as the commencement date for the trial.
