Celebrated Zambian music icon Wesley Chibambo, popularly know as “King Dandy Krazy”, has been laid to rest this afternoon in Lusaka following his tragic death last Thursday.
Chibambo, 47, died at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) after he was involved in a fatal road traffic accident in Kapiri Mposhi, Central Province on new year’s eve.
The road mishap also claimed the lives of three others.
Thousands of people including the popular musician’s widow, children, friends and a score of celebrities as well as other prominent figures gathered to pay their last respects to Dandy Krazy initially at the Lusaka Showgrounds.
The funeral ceremony was characterized by several tributes in form of speeches as well as musical and other artistic performances by government officials, politicians and several artists in honour of the late “Donchi Kubeba” hit-maker.
Flanked by her siblings, Towela – one of Chibambo’s children – delivered a heart-touching speech in which she described her father as a resilient and truthful character besides being a loving family man.
“Beyond the role of father, my dad, Wesley Chibambo was a man of remarkable character. He was someone who valued honesty, hard work and simple ways of life. Whether he was working tirelessly to provide for his family, apart from that he believed in doing what was right even when it was difficult and his strength of character was an inspiration to everyone who knew him,” she said.
The mourners later proceeded to Leopards Hill Memorial Park where the iconic King Dandy’s interment has since taken place.
