Mfuwe Patriotic Front (PF) lawmaker Maureen Mabonga testified in court that her statements deemed seditious were intended to raise awareness about alleged threats by UPND cadres to harm former President Edgar Lungu.
Mabonga claimed that UPND cadres threatened to circumcise Lungu and “deal with” the PF.
She also stated that she was responding to these threats when she made her statements.
The court allowed Mabonga’s application to submit videos extracted from Facebook as evidence, which allegedly show UPND cadres making threatening statements.
During cross-examination, Mabonga acknowledged that she did not report the threats to the police, instead choosing to address the nation about them.
She maintained that her words were not intended to incite violence but rather to bring attention to the issues.
