Zambian international striker Fashion Sakala has become the all-time league top goal scorer at his Saudi Arabian club Al-Fayha SC after netting in a dramatic 1-1 draw against Al-Ittihad SC last night.
The 27-year-old forward put Al-Fayha in the lead deep in additional time after making a powerful solo run before finding himself in the box to net the opening goal at King Abdullah Sports City.
Sakala’s goal last evening was his 24th in 43 league appearances for Al-Fayha, thus making him the highest-scoring player in the club’s history in the Saudi top flight.
Founded in 1953, Al-Fayha won their first promotion to the Saudi top flight in 2017, while Sakala joined the club in 2023 from Scottish giants Rangers in a reported €5 million transfer deal.
The Zambian superstar almost secured victory for Al-Fayha over the star-studded Al-Ittihad side, led by French striker Karim Benzema, who missed a penalty in the 57th minute of the match.
Al-Ittihad had another chance to take the lead from the spot in the 88th minute, but French midfielder Houssem Aouar also saw his effort saved, while substitute Fawaz Al Soqoor got the equalizer at the last minute.
Sakala has now scored five goals in 12 matches played this season for Al-Fayha, who have struggled this term and sit second from bottom of the table in the Roshn Saudi Pro League.
