Nkana Suffered A Lot’ — Chipepo Eager to Impress Supporters

Must read

New MTN Super League log leaders Nkana head coach Mwenya Chipepo says he is determined to impress at the club to please the supporters who had previously endured torrid times prior to his arrival.

Kalampa yesterday shot to the summit of the Super League table after a dramatic 2-0 victory over Mutondo Stars at home, where they scored two last-minute goals in the Week 19 clash.

Speaking to the media after the match, Chipepo expressed his delight over his side’s spirited performance against a resilient 10-man Mutondo outfit.

“I’m very happy with the performance today, though it wasn’t easy. Mutondo played good football and they frustrated us, especially in the first half, but we managed to respond in the second half and scored the goals,” Chipepo said.

Having taken up the mantle last October when the team had been languishing in the relegation zone, Chipepo has steered Kalampa to the summit and has surreally turned the team into title contenders this term.

The former Power Dynamos coach expressed his delight over the team’s current form and success, which he is eager to continue in order to restore the club’s pride.

“I’m very happy, and I’m sure the supporters are very happy as well because Nkana suffered a lot, and it is time for me to make them happy,” he said.

He further declared that the record 13-time league champions will not be easily dislodged from their current status in the league.

“The guys have confidence now, and they have really improved, so it won’t be easy to take us out of that position,” he added.

Meanwhile, Chipepo praised talismanic Congolese forward Idris Mbombo’s impact after he scored twice on Saturday, despite calls for his removal during the match against Mutondo.

“I heard some people saying I must substitute him, but I had trust in him, and you saw what happened. He is a reliable player, and I always count on him,” Chipepo said.

Kalampa sit at the summit of the table with 33 points and will next face fellow title contenders Zesco United in their next match in Week 20 of the Super League.
