The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has pushed the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament to August 2025.
CAF has announced that the decision was necessitated by the hosting nations’ lack of readiness to host the tournament, which was initially set to be held from February 1 to 28, 2025.
Host nation Kenya has been running behind schedule in preparing for the tournament, with the construction of stadiums still ongoing to date.
“I am impressed with the ongoing construction and renovations of the football infrastructure and facilities in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. I am confident that the stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other infrastructure and facilities will meet the requisite CAF standards for hosting, in August 2025, a very successful TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024,” CAF President Patrice Motsepe said in a statement.
Nonetheless, the draw for the group stage of the CHAN tournament will be held as scheduled on Wednesday night at Nairobi’s Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
Zambia’s Chipolopolo have been seeded in Pot 2 ahead of the draws for the tournament, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
