The ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) has expelled Kebby Sikangila, the Councillor for Chisankane Ward, for misconduct.
Also expelled from the party is National Management Committee member Frazer Moonde.
UPND Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa revealed the expulsions during a press briefing in Lusaka today.
Mweetwa, who also serves as Chief Government Spokesperson, stated that the National Management Committee took action based on recommendations from the National Disciplinary Committee.
Meanwhile, the party has announced that the party has launched its preparations for next year’s 2026 General Elections.
Mweetwa says that the party anticipates a crucial election next year, hence, there is an urgency to begin preparations.
“As we begin this year, we have begun to prepare ourselves as a party for this election, which is a major test for us, being the first that we are going to confront as a party in government,” said Mweetwa.
Mweetwa stated that the UPND has set discipline as a paramount facet in the party’s preparations leading up to next year’s polls.
“At the center of this journey, therefore, in this year going into the election year next year, the party has placed discipline at the center of its operations because without discipline, there is less that people can achieve together while working as a team,” he said.
He further emphasized that all members, regardless of their status in the party, must conduct themselves in an exemplary manner as urged by Republican President Hakainde Hichilema, the party leader.
“In a party that is led by a disciplined president, all party leaders must be disciplined, and all supporters of a disciplined president must show discipline in their various engagements because that is the foundation for success,” he said.
