Farmer Sentenced to 18 Months for Brutal Assault Over Beer Dispute

Must read

A 55-year-old farmer, Christopher Mafuleka, who conspired with his son, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for brutally assaulting a man who refused to buy them beer.

The incident occurred on July 2, 2024, when Mafuleka, from the Chikumbi area in Lusaka, approached the victim, Robby Mtonga, and asked him to buy beer.

When Mtonga declined, citing a lack of cash, Mafuleka became enraged.

His son, Clinton, soon joined in and together they beat Mtonga, leaving him with a broken arm, a swollen eye and general body pain.

The court heard that Mafuleka even used a stick to hit the victim who was eventually rescued by neighborhood watch members.

Despite Mafuleka’s claims that he was attacked by Mtonga, the court dismissed his defense as an attempt to evade culpability.

Magistrate Keegan Litiya sentenced Mafuleka to 18 months of simple imprisonment, citing the seriousness of the offense and the need for the court to help curb such violent behavior.

Clinton, who had admitted to the charge, was already serving the 18 months.
