Minister of Home Affairs & Internal Security Jack Mwiimbu has issued a statement to warn individuals purporting on social media that Republican President Hakainde Hichilema has taken ill.
A section of undistinguished social media tabloids suggested that President Hichilema had taken ill before State House refuted the reports which have been deemed fake and malicious.
Mwiimbu has further reacted to the false reports in an interview with ZNBC, stating that government is aware and dismayed by the ongoing fake speculations, allegedly spread by political opponents, about the Head of State’s current state of health.
“It has come to our attention as government that our colleagues in the opposition, in particular those of the Tonse Alliance, have been circulating malicious and obnoxious articles pertaining to the health of the President and other public officials,” Mwiimbu said.
Mwiimbu has since warned that falsely alarming the nation about the Head of State’s health is an unlawful conduct and anyone found wanting will face the full course of the law.
“It must be noted that the laws of this country are very clear. Anyone who violates the laws of this country is answerable to the laws of the land,” he warned.
Government has announced that President Hichilema is in perfect health condition and will travel to Tanzania to attend the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit set for Tuesday, 28 January 2025.
