Zambian Premier League club FC MUZA proprietor Keith Mweemba has pledged to unify the football fraternity if elected as president of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) in the upcoming elections.
Mweemba has successfully filed in his nomination to join the FAZ presidential race with the promise of bringing forth unity which he says has been lacking in Zambian football circles.
“Football is a game of unity and as incoming FAZ president we shall ensure that we unite the football family because when it comes to unity there is no compromise,” Mweemba said while speaking to journalists after submitting his nomination.
Mweemba says under his FAZ administration, important football figures such as football legend Kalusha Bwalya will be reinstated back into football having been sidelined under the current administration along with several others.
“We want to see our football icon Kalusha Bwalya, the Great Kalu, to start participating in the affairs of football in this country. It is actually an embarrassment that we are talking about football and the name of Kalusha Bwalya is not part and parcel of the footballing process,” he said.
Mweemba further disclosed that one of his administration’s priorities will be to carry out critical reforms to the current FAZ constitution which consists of a number of gaps.
“We are going to bring constitutional reforms as well as statutory reforms. As far as I am concerned our FAZ constitution has a lot of lacunae that needs to be addressed. It must be tailored in such a way that it is able to meet the legitimate expectations of the FIFA statutes,” said Mweemba.
Furthermore, the renowned lawyer pledged to work with all football stakeholders including the current administration led by Andrew Kamanga in the spirit of teamwork.
“No one must feel threatened. Even the current FAZ administration we shall work with them because that is what it means to work as a team,” he said.
The elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) is set for 29th March, 2025 at Fairmount Hotel in Livingstone.
