Talented international midfielder Grace Chanda is set to make her comeback in the Zambia Women’s Squad for the upcoming Olympic qualifier against Morocco in Ndola. This marks her return to national duty after an absence since July 2023, when she missed the FIFA World Cup due to illness.
Head coach Bruce Mwape announced the 34-member squad today for the crucial qualifier scheduled for April 5 at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola. Alongside Chanda, notable players such as Captain Barbara Banda, striker Rachael Kundananji, Rachael Nachula, and Misozi Zulu have also been included in the squad.
The squad comprises a blend of experienced players and rising talents across various clubs and leagues. Among the goalkeepers selected are Annie Namonje from ZESCO Ndola Girls, Ngambo Musole from Green Buffaloes, Eunice Sakala from INDENI Roses, and Chitete Munsaka from Elite Ladies.
In the midfield department, Chanda will be joined by players like Misozi Zulu from Hakkarigucu Spur in Turkey, Ireen Lungu from BIIK Kazygurt Shymkent in Kazakhstan, and others such as Rhodah Chileshe, Comfort Selemani, and Salome Phiri, to name a few.
The striking force includes great names like Barbra Banda from Orlando Pride in the USA, Rachael Kundananji from Bay FC in the USA, and Eneless Phiri from Nkwazi Queens, among others.
This selection underlines the depth and quality present in Zambia’s women’s football setup, with players plying their trade across different continents and leagues. The return of Grace Chanda adds further strength to the squad, providing additional creativity and stability in midfield.
With the Olympic qualifier looming, expectations are high for Zambia to put on a strong performance and secure a vital victory against Morocco. The blend of experience and youth in the squad bodes well for Zambia’s prospects as they aim to progress in the qualifying campaign and stake their claim for a spot in the Olympic Games.
