The Lusaka Water and Sanitation Company (LWSC) has announced that it has immediately commenced water rationing.
Company managing director Jilly Chiyombwe says the decision has been necessitated by the current water statistics where demand has outstripped the available quantity owing to the drought.
Chiyombwe said 330 million litres of water is available against a demand of 480 million litres per day.
He said the daily 8-hour electricity management schedule has affected water supply in Lusaka city.
Briefing the media in Lusaka this morning, Chiyombwe explained that LWSC will align its water rationing with ZESCO’s load shedding schedule.
He has appealed to Lusaka residents and consumers in general against to avoid wasting water, and advised that for as long as load shedding persists, water rationing would continue.
