…as he banks on Levy home support

Zambia national team head coach Avram Grant says the team has got over the away defeat to Morocco and is focused on tomorrow’s encounter against Tanzania at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference this morning, Grant said his players are psyched up for confrontation with the Taifa Stars.

“In the beginning, it was very difficult to lift them up but yesterday they started training. I told them, like I always say, that the most important thing is the next game,” said Grant. “So now they are in a good mood mentally for the next game.”

Grant has described Tanzania as a quality side following their decent performances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations where the two sides met and played out to a 1-1 draw.

“We know it is a very important game for us because we want to stay in the picture against a very good opponent. You saw what they did at AFCON against us and against Congo including in the qualifiers,” he said.

“They played well with a lot of intensity, but we need to think about us and we want to win this game.”

The Israeli trainer added that the Chipolopolo will look to utilize home advantage and home support to deliver a positive result against Tanzania tomorrow.

“Now we are playing at our home where our supporters are amazing, and we always took our results in the last games we have played here and we still want it to be like this,” he said.

Chipolopolo needs to beat the Taifa Stars tomorrow to salvage its hopes of qualifying for the World Cup. The team has lost its last two matches and was handed a 2-1 loss by Morocco on Friday to record back-to-back defeats in Group E of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
