South Africa Inaugurates Ramaphosa

Must read

President-elect Cyril Ramaphosa will today be inaugurated as South Africa’s president to start what should be his second full term.

Ramaphosa will lead a government of national unity (GNU) comprising his party, the African National Congress (ANC), the Democratic Alliance, the IFP and other smaller parties.

The GNU was necessitated by the ANC’s loss of its parliamentary majority in last month’s election.

President-elect Ramaphosa, South Africa’s fifth democratic president, was resoundingly elected by the GNU members of parliament at the first sitting of the National Assembly.

Several regional and African heads of state and other dignitaries are expected to attend the swearing in ceremony at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
