A police constable working in UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s protection team has been arrested for allegedly betting on the timing of the general election, set for July 4.
It appears that Craig Williams bet £100 on a July election date before Sunak publicly announced it.
He was arrested on Monday on suspicion of misconduct in public office, the Metropolitan Police confirmed.
The police confirmed that the Gambling Commission had contacted them about investigating alleged bets made by a police constable from the Met’s Royalty and Specialist Protection Command related to the timing of the general election.
The removed has been removed from his operational duties while an investigation into his alleged conduct has been opened.
