MTN Super League club NAPSA Stars is expected to appoint Sipho Mumbi as its new head coach to replace Perry Mutapa ahead of the 2024/25 season.
NAPSA has opted to part ways with Mutapa after a 2023/2024 season brought mixed fortunes, with the club narrowly survived relegation. The side finished just a place above the dreaded zone.
Sources at the club have confirmed to Zambian Digest that NAPSA has resolved to terminate Mutapa’s contract after three years in a bid to overturn their fortunes next season.
“NAPSA has fired Perry Mutapa because of the team’s poor performance. They made the decision they thought was best for the team,” the source said.
The club is said to have already engaged in talks with former player and coach Sipho Mumbi who has agreed to return to the club as head coach.
Mumbi served with Mutapa as his assistant until September 2023, when he left NAPSA to join Kitwe giants Nkana. As part of head coach Ian Bakala’s technical bench, he helped his new club avoid relegation last season.
In his three-year tour, Mutapa Napsa secured NAPSA’s promotion back into the Super League in 2021/21 and won the 2022 ABSA Cup.
