Newly-appointed Minister of Justice Princess Kasune has been elected chairperson for the SADC-Parliamentary Forum (SADC-PF) Committee for Regional Parliamentary Model Laws Oversight.
Ms Kasune was elected as chairperson of the SADC-PF’s parliamentary body after going unopposed having been endorsed by Angola.
The Keembe Member of Parliament was also unanimously seconded by the majority of the 15 SADC member countries’ Parliamentary Forum Committees.
Ms Kasune who has succeeded Malawi’s Ishmael Ndaila Onani, is expected to head the SADC-PF Regional Parliamentary Model Laws Oversight Committee from 2024 through to 2026.
The Regional Parliamentary Model Law Oversight Committee (RPMLOC) is constituted in accordance with Article 16 of the SADC-PF Constitution.
Ms Kasune was last month appointed by Republican President Hakainde Hichilema as Zambia’s first-ever female Minister of Justice.
