England and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has expressed interest in reuniting with Zambian international striker Fashion Sakala at Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq SC.
Gerrard previously worked with Sakala at Scottish Premiership side Rangers after signing him from Belgian side KV Oostende in 2021.
Gerrard who has been in charge Al-Ettifaq since last year, is keen on bringing Sakala on board following the 27-year old’s blistering performances in past season for Al-Fayha in Saudi Pro League.
According to Saudi website, Slaati, the former Aston Villa manager has identified Sakala as a priority target in ongoing transfer window as he aims to strengthen his side.
“The reason Gerard wants Sakala is because he is convinced of the player’s potential and had previously trained him at the Scottish Rangers Club in the summer of 2021” a report by the source reads.
The Zambian international star whose market value currently sits at €6 million (over K155 million), enjoyed a stellar 2023/24 season with Al-Fayha as he scored 19 goals in 31 matches in his debut campaign in the Middle East.
