Home Affairs minister Jack Mwiimbu says government is aware of a scheme by some organizations and individuals to disrupt peace in the country.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s Constitutional Court judgement on whether former president Edgar Lungu qualifies to stand for presidency again or not, Mr Mwiimbu warned against anarchy.
He said government we will not allow anarchy to reign in this country.
He said some roads to the court premises will be closed while police will be deployed to maintain law and order.
Mr Mwiimbu disclosed that there are some individuals that had been circulating texts messages calling for civil unrest, reminiscent of what was happening in Kenya.
He appealed to political cadres to stay away from being paraded by their parties.
“Please, please stay away. The Zambia Police will deploy personnel to ensure that law and order is maintained to the highest standards,” he said at a press briefing earlier today.
“Arising from intelligence reports which we have, it will be imprudent on our part if we don’t take appropriate action to take the interests of the nation at heart.”
He said premises are supposed to be respected without resorting to disorder.
“Peace can be lost very easily. To regain peace country men and women is hard,” he added.
