The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has announced a nationwide search for players to potentially feature for the senior men’s national team.

FAZ announced today that the nationwide player selection exercise will be conducted in line with a proposal made by the national team’s technical committee.

General Secretary Reuben Kamanga explained in a statement that two batches of players to be drawn from all the 10 provinces will battle it out in a match after two provincial play-offs. Arising from that match, a final squad will be assembled to play against the senior national team.

“The countrywide selection for male players will see two streams of teams converge in Lusaka for Southern, Lusaka, Central, Eastern and Western provinces while the other batch will have Copperbelt, North-Western, Northern, Luapula and Muchinga provinces,” Kamanga said.

“The best players from the provincial teams will face off against each other. The best squad will be selected to face the national team in an All Stars Versus the Rest format.”

Kamanga further disclosed that the nationwide selection program will present players from far-flung areas with a chance to be assessed by the national team selectors.

“We encourage the technical experts in the provinces to bring to the fore some of the much-talked about rural talent that can be brought to the attention of national selectors,” he urged.

The commencement date of this exercise is yet to be announced.
