Director of Public Prosecutions Gilbert Phiri has applied for forfeiture of the various items seized from the Chinese-led cyber crime syndicate busted in Lusaka recently.
Phiri filed a notice to forfeit to the state two firearms and 37 rounds of ammunition, motor vehicles, cash in different currencies, more than 100 computers, SIM boxes, mobile phones and equipment found at the crime scene.
The 21 Chinese nationals and a Cameroonian found to have been behind the crimes were convicted on guilty pleas and sentenced to prison terms ranging from four to 11 years and fined K30,000 each. They have appealed their sentences.
They were convicted for various crimes, including internet fraud and running online scams against victims in different countries as well as illegally operating a network.
