President Hakainde Hichilema has praised Muzala Samukonga for winning a bronze medal at the current Paris Olympic Games.
Samukonga achieved an impressive time of 43.74 seconds, narrowly missing the gold which was taken by Quincy Hall from the United States with a time of 43.40 in the 400m category.
Samukonga’s triumph ended a 28-year wait since Samuel Matete’s silver medal in the 400m hurdles at the 1996 games.
“We extend our warmest and most profound congratulations to our compatriot, Muzala Samukonga, on his outstanding achievement of winning the bronze medal in the 400 meters race at the ongoing Paris Olympics,” he posted on his Facebook page.
“By competing against the world’s finest athletes in the most esteemed global sporting event, Muzala has elevated our national flag and brought immense pride to his motherland.”
He commended the athlete’s extraordinary achievement as a reflection of his commitment and hard work.
Samukonga is set to return to the track tomorrow as he leads the relay team, known for defeating the formidable Jamaica team, in pursuit of another medal.
