Lwandamina Carries 20-Member Squad as Zesco Depart for Botswana Ahead of Dynamos Clash

Zesco United, Zambia’s envoys in this season’s CAF Confederation Cup, have left the country for Botswana ahead of Sunday’s encounter against Zimbabwean side Dynamos FC.

Zesco head coach George Lwandamina has named a 20-member squad to face Dynamos in the preliminary round first leg clash to be played at the National Stadium of Gaborone, the Zimbabwean side’s neutral venue.

Captain of the side John Ching’andu leads Lwandamina’s roster alongside the experienced Tandi Mwape, Shemmy Mayembe, goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata and Nigerian international Denis Nya.

New signings Alex Ng’onga, Benedict Chepeshi and Chadian international striker Amine Hiver have also made the trip to Gaborone where they will be in line to make their debuts on Sunday.

Speaking before departure at Ndola’s Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport today, Nigerian defender Denis Nya said Zesco were ready to face any side as they aim to reach the group stage which has eluded the club since 2019.

“We have been pushing since we resumed and everyone has been working hard. Zesco United is a big club and we are 100 percent ready to face any team both at home and away,” Nya said.

“Our aspiration and ambition is to go to the group stage of the Confederation Cup.”

The 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner also called on fans and the entire country to back the Ndola giants in their push to reach the group phase of the continental competition.

“Believe in the team and come to support us in the Confederation Cup and for the country to support for us to reach the group stage,” he said.

Zesco will on Sunday face Dynamos at the National Stadium in Gaborone at 15:00 hours in the first leg encounter while the return leg has been slated for next week in Ndola.
