Zesco United are confident of overcoming their
CAF Confederation Cup first leg loss to Zimbabwean side Dynamos.
On Sunday, Zesco succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Zimbabweans who scored in the first-half through Tanaka Shandirwa to give his side the advantage at the National Stadium in Gaborone, Botswana.
The Ndola giants will now look to turn the tie on its head as they host Dynamos at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola next Saturday.
Speaking in an interview after arriving back in Ndola, club CEO Charles Kalala said his side will be out to punish the Zimbabwean side in the return leg and ultimately progress to the pre-group stage.
“I believe the 1-0 loss is surmountable. We are able to overcome that result back home,” Kalala said in an interview.
Kalala has since urged the fans to continue rallying behind the team in its quest to bring continental honours to the nation.
“Lets keep the support and the momentum. Let us not demean our players because it was an away game but I believe that back home, they (Dynamos) will have to pay for what they did and we are going to progress into the next stage.”
Kalala said the club leadership will work to ensure the team is adequately prepared for the encounter against Dynamos next Saturday.
“As management, we want to assure the fans that the team will be well prepared and ready for the next game. We need to give them the moral support and the boys being well, they want to do it for mother Zambia,” he added.
He said the nine-time Zambian champions will take Saturday’s encounter with the utmost seriousness and called on the fans to turn up in numbers and support the team at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
“We have played the first half of the game and the second half will be played on Saturday at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium where we should show them who we are,”
“We will ensure that we do everything possible to progress into the next round even if it will mean opening the gates for free. What we want is 100 percent support,” he said.
Zesco need to beat Dynamos by a margin of at least two goals on Saturday to progress into the pre-group stage where they could face either Orapa United of Botswana or Foresters Mont Fleuri of Seychelles.
