The government has acquired more than 450,000 metric tons of non-genetically modified white maize from small-scale farmers, valued at over K3 billion as of September this year.
Minister of Agriculture Reuben Mutolo informed Parliament yesterday that the government has disbursed K2 billion, which accounts for 65 percent of the total purchase for the 465,000 metric tons of maize.
Mr. Mutolo provided this update during a parliamentary question-and-answer session in response to inquiries from Chama North MP Yotam Mtayachalo (PF).
