Nursing Student Robbed and Murdered by Taxi Driver

Must read

A 24-year-old nursing student was on October 24 mercilessly assaulted and robbed by the driver of a vehicle she hired as a taxi, leading to her death.

Identified as Silvia Nanjela, the victim sustained grievous injuries from being repeatedly hit on the head with a bottle by the monster of a man who drove a Toyota Vitz and turned on her as she was exiting his car upon reaching her destination.

According to the details released by police Assistant Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi, Nanjela, in the company of a friend, booked a taxi from Twin Palm area to Kamwala South around 2 a.m. on October 24. The friend remained in Kamwala while the victim continued to her destination.

“Upon arriving at her residence, the suspect, who was driving the taxi, was asked to stop the car by the gate. The victim took her black handbag, which contained money, and removed K100.00 to pay the driver,” stated Chilabi.

“As she was about to exit the car, the taxi driver struck her repeatedly on the head with an empty bottle. She shouted for help, but the driver started the car and drove away with her still inside.”

The report states that the victim continued to struggle with the driver, shouting for help and he continued to strike her with another bottle. In her attempt to escape, she became entangled in the seat belt, causing the driver to lose control and crash into a drainage.

A good Samaritan heard the commotion outside and came to her aid, prompting the suspect to run away from the scene with Nanjela’s handbag containing K400, abandoning his vehicle, a Toyota Vitz with registration number BLB 6050, with the keys inside.

The victim sustained multiple head injuries and was rushed to the hospital but died of her injuries three days later. The police subsequently arrested the aggravated robber and murderer.
