Record 13-time Zambian champions Nkana will be out to defend their winning streak again today, while ZESCO United also looks to continue its march towards a much-awaited 10th league title as MTN Super League action spills into the mid-week interval this afternoon.
After four straight wins, Nkana come up against troubled Zanaco at the Sunset Stadium this afternoon in a Week 13 Super League match.
New coach Mwenya Chipepo has had a perfect start to his tenure so far and will be aiming to mastermind another victory for Kalampa after making it four wins out of four matches last weekend when they beat Forest Rangers 2-0 in Kitwe to go up to sixth on the standings.
Today’s hosts, Zanaco, have tasted a bitter campaign so far, and are currently languishing in the drop zone in 16th place with interim coach Dabid Chilufya targeting what would be a vital win over Kalampa to set the tone for what would be a remarkable turnaround of fortunes for the club.
Chilufya took charge of his first match last Sunday at the Edwin Imboela Stadium where Zanaco was held to a barren draw by stubborn Nkwazi.
In more of today’s Super League action, log-leaders ZESCO United confront FC Muza at their Nakambala Stadium fortress in Mazabuka.
ZESCO beat fellow title-contenders Power Dynamos 2-0 in Ndola on Saturday and will look to collect another set of three points in Southern Province today to maintain their lead at the summit where they currently sit on 25 points.
However, they ought to be wary of the youthful Muza side, which lost only twice in Mazabuka in the last 15 fixtures overall.
In Lusaka, second-placed Green Buffaloes will take on stubborn Nkwazi at the Edwin Imboela Stadium in an encounter dubbed as the “Security Forces Derby” given the two sides’ army and police backgrounds.
Defending champions Red Arrows are also in action as they host Mufulira Wanderers at the Nkoloma Stadium where victory is desperately needed to catch up from their current uninspiring eighth position.
Power Dynamos also look to bounce back from last Saturday’s defeat away at ZESCO United as they host NAPSA Stars at the Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.
Kabwe Warriors have emerged as surprise title contenders this season and the 1987 champions will be out to continue their fine run when they host Mutondo Stars in Kabwe today.
