Nkana’s impressive four-match winning streak has ended after the Kitwe giants surrendered to a 1-0 defeat at Zanaco, as the MTN Super League entered Week 13 this afternoon.
Cameroonian import Lambert Gueme Araina secured the important victory for relegation-threatened Zanaco, scoring the lone and vital goal in the 55th minute.
Victory at Sunset Stadium this afternoon pushed Zanaco to 13 points but the bankers remain in the drop zone in 15th place while Nkana has dropped one place into seventh.
Away from Sunset Stadium, log-leaders ZESCO United missed a chance to extend their lead at the top as they played to a barren draw away at FC MUZA.
ZESCO, who has 26 points, now leads the table by just a point after the stalemate against a resilient MUZA side that still occupies ninth place.
Kabwe Warriors continued their ascendance on the table and now sit in second place after beating Mutondo Stars 1-0 at the iconic Godfrey Ucar Chitalu Stadium.
Warriors scored through Francis Banda late in the 79th minute to continue their quiet rise in the top half of the table and, with 25 points, are now just a point behind leaders ZESCO.
Meanwhile, Green Buffaloes gave away second place following a shocking 2-1 loss at home to Nkwazi in the “defense force derby” played at Edwin Imboela Stadium.
The Policemen punished Buffaloes earlier in the first half with two quick goals by Wezzy Kumwenda and Innocent Kashita. Lucky Bwalya scored a 56th-minute spot-kick which could not rescue the army-sponsored side.
Power Dynamos also returned to winning ways as they edged NAPSA Stars 3-1 at Arthur Davies Stadium to move up to third on the table with 25 points.
