Chitambala Mwewa, a social media vlogger and businessman, narrowly escaped arrest after presenting himself before the Lusaka magistrate’s court.
Mwewa, also known as Simon Mwewa Lane, is a key witness in a case involving Chishimba Kambwili, a member of the Patriotic Front (PF) central committee.
Mwewa, 55, humbly apologized to Magistrate Kawama Mwamfuli for missing his previous court appearance, citing a conflicting High Court case and a simple lapse in memory.
“I forgot, and I sincerely apologize,” Mwewa said. “I have no defense but to say I’m sorry, and I’m ready to testify.”
Magistrate Kawama Mwamfuli, giving Mwewa the benefit of the doubt, revoked the bench warrant issued against him.
However, the case was adjourned to February 6 for mention and March 6 for trial, with the magistrate warning that this is the last adjournment and all witnesses should be ready.
Kambwili is facing charges of unlawful assembly, allegedly committed on January 26, 2023, in Lusaka.
