A 15-year-old girl and aspiring soccer player testified in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court against her stepfather, Muyunda Kakwaya, who is accused of repeatedly sexually abusing her.
The minor, who looks up to Zambia’s renowned female footballer Barbra Banda, recounted three instances of alleged abuse in August 2024.
She stated that her stepfather would assault her while she prepared for school and afterward give her K20.
The girl explained that she initially hesitated to report the abuse but eventually confided in her mother’s younger sister, who accompanied her to the police station and a clinic for examination.
During cross-examination, the defense questioned the girl about sleeping out, which she attributed to the abuse.
The defense also suggested that she had slept out more than once, but the girl denied this.
The case has been adjourned to February 4, 2025, for continuation.
