Nkana defense pillar Chitoshi Chinga says the Kitwe giants have braced themselves for a highly competitive and crucial encounter against rivals Zesco United on tomorrow.
Kalampa visit Zesco at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium tomorrow in a fierce Week 20 contest between the two sides, which are only separated by goal difference at the top of the table.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with ZD ahead of the match, Chinga says Kalampa is taking Sunday’s encounter very seriously, just like every other fixture this season thus far.
“For us as Nkana, every game is a final and as much as it will be a more competitive game for us, we are ready to go and compete for a good result,” Chinga said.
Chinga, who joined the Kitwe giants last season, has been a key figure in Nkana’s fairytale run that has seen the team rise from the relegation zone to the summit of the table.
The former Forest Rangers center-half has attributed Kalampa’s resurgence to the positive impact brought to the team by head coach Mwenya Chipepo and his technical bench, who have guided the team to eight wins in eleven matches since taking charge.
“The coaches have been the main contributors to the success we have had so far, and like the same coaches say, it’s just God’s time and no one can change it; all thanks go to the coach,” he said.
At the top of the table with 33 points but only separated by goal difference from Zesco, Kabwe Warriors, and Red Arrows, Chinga says Kalampa has set its sights on clinching a historic 14th league crown this season.
“There are lots of teams on the table, but what we want is to win the league because Nkana is the biggest team, and we owe it to the bosses and the supporters. We believe it’s time for the red family,” he said.
Nkana has not won a league title since 2020 when the league was prematurely cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
