Warriors Report Numba to FAZ for Breaching Contract

Must read

MTN Super League side Kabwe Warriors have their reported former head coach Numba Mumamba to the FAZ Player Status Committee for terminating his contract with the club unjustly.

A fortnight ago, the 46-year-old coach, along with his assistant coach Noel Mwandila, stepped down from his role at Warriors to return to his former club Zanaco on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

Warriors CEO Charles Chakatazya has since told the Times of Zambia that the club has opted to seek arbitration from FAZ, as Mumamba did not follow the due procedure in parting ways with the club.

“We have no misunderstanding with coach Numba. We believe the right procedure was not followed,” Chakatazya said.

Chakatazya further alleged that Zanaco was not truthful in their approach to engage Mumamba, even after Warriors had shown a willingness to negotiate.

“When the coach wrote to us to seek resignation, we engaged Zanaco, but their reply was not fair to us because they were more like denying the allegations of inducing the coach to join them,” he said.

He further stressed that contract terminations are conducted in a procedural manner; hence, the club will depend on the FAZ body’s ruling on the matter.

“When one causes a termination like that, it calls for a breach. There are other factors. There is an inducement element from the other club, which they have denied. So, we have given it to an independent body to look at it to see if there is any inducement or not. Then they will guide us. We shall wait for FAZ to give us a verdict,” said Chakatazya.

Mumamba joined Warriors on an initial short-term six-month contract in December 2022 before signing a new two-year extension that was due to expire in December this year.
