HH Calls on Global Community to Prioritize Economic Growth Over Conflicts

Must read

Republican President Hakainde Hichilema has urged the global community to focus and collaborate more on matters of economic development over conflict resolutions.

Speaking this morning after receiving credentials from three new High Commissioners accredited to Zambia, President Hichilema said his government considers peace, security and stability as critical components in its foreign policy.

“As you know this government is clocking three years plus in office now and we have a clear foreign policy thrust and anchored on two legs and the first is peace, security and stability,” President Hichilema said.

The Head of State added that his government remains committed to cooperating with its foreign partners to promote peace in the region.

“This government believes that we will work together around the issues of peace, security and stability in our countries, regions and in our global community,” he said.

President Hichilema further stressed that government’s must not spend more resources and effort on armoury to strengthen their positions in conflicts and war.

“I did not expect to see so many areas of conflict in 2024 to 2025 so we need to work together starting with here in the local offices which you will be heading to collaborate effectively to make our world spend less money on conflict,” he said.

He said resources invested in conflicts can be channeled towards areas of sustainable development if only the global community collaborate to attain peace.

“We want our resources to move away from buying guns, armoury and spending a lot on issues of peace, security and stability because we can assure ourselves of those issues,” said the Head of State.

As desired in his government’s second main priority in its foreign policy, President Hichilema says he would like to see more bilateral cooperation focused on economic development and growth given the abundant natural resources that exist in the region.

“We would like our economies to accelerate faster. God gave us resources endowments but we are underperforming and as leaders are determined and everytime we meet we talk and share issues of growing our economies quicker and creating food security with or without drought is what we are pushing in Zambia now,” he said.

Earlier this morning at State House, President Hichilema received credentials from new diplomatic representatives accredited to Zambia from the United Kingdom, Turkey and Kenya.
