The President disclosed that Zambia’s first President, Kenneth Kaunda, had once confided in him about his future presidential aspirations, approximately 21 years ago.
“Kaunda told me that whether I knew it or not, I would transition from business to politics and eventually become the President of this country,” shared President Hichilema.
Initially skeptical due to his background as a businessman, President Hichilema reflected on the parallels between his leadership and Kaunda’s, emphasizing shared values such as free education, healthcare, and national unity.
Furthermore, President Hichilema affirmed his administration’s dedication to supporting vulnerable populations, expressing a commitment to providing assistance to orphans and impoverished individuals to facilitate access to education.
The President commemorated Kenneth Kaunda’s centenary birthday at Lubwa Mission in Chinsali, joined by the Kaunda family and various dignitaries.
Colonel Panji Kaunda conveyed appreciation to President Hichilema for honoring KK’s legacy, underscoring the significance of the President’s participation in shaping future narratives of Zambia’s history.
