Former First Lady Esther Lungu has maintained her family’s innocence amidst ongoing legal battles involving suspected proceeds of crime.

Mrs. Lungu, accompanied by her husband, former President Edgar Lungu, reiterated her trust in God’s justice following a court hearing. She asserted, “We have to lean on God, I will not be shaken. God knew, God knows.”

Despite facing allegations related to the theft of motor vehicles, Mrs. Lungu remained steadfast, expressing confidence that truth would prevail. She emphasized resilience in the face of adversity, stating, “There is light at the end of the tunnel, they shall not take away our life, we shall live.”

Supporters offered solidarity to Mrs. Lungu, acknowledging what they perceived as unjust persecution and emphasizing faith in God’s greatness. Mrs. Lungu questioned the uniqueness of her situation among former first ladies, highlighting the challenges she faces.

Legal actions have targeted properties belonging to the Lungu family, including Mr. Lungu’s children Chiyeso and Tasila. Meanwhile, legal proceedings involving Mr. Lungu’s son Dalitso have faced delays since his initial arrest on allegations of possession of vehicles and money laundering.
