…Defence aircraft with Chilima and 9 other officials on board failed to make scheduled landing this morning

A plane carrying Malawi’s Vice President, Saulos Chilima, is reported to have gone missing.

A press release issued by the Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Colleen Zamba, states that Chilima and nine others were aboard a Malawi Defence Force Aircraft that left the capital, Lilongwe, at 09:17 hours today, June 10, but failed to make its scheduled landing at Mzuzu International Airport at 10:02 hours.

“All efforts by aviation authorities to make contact with the aircraft since it went off the radar have failed thus far,” stated Zamba.

Following this failure, the Commander of Malawi’s Defence Force has informed President Lazarus Chakwera who has since cancelled his scheduled departure for the Bahamas.

Chakwera has also ordered an immediate search and rescue operation to locate the aircraft’s whereabouts.
