President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi has declared 21 days of national mourning in honor of the late Vice President Saulos Chilima and eight other officials who perished in a helicopter crash on Monday.
According to a release by the Secretary to the President and Cabinet, President Chakwera “has directed that the nation observe a period of 21 days of mourning” commencing on 11 June and ending on 1 July.
All flags will be flown at half-mast throughout the period of mourning.
Chilima’s remains were flown from the crash site in Chikangawa forest to Lilongwe aboard a Zambia Airforce aircraft yesterday.
