Zambian judoka Simon Zulu has secured himself a shot at Olympic glory with his qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games kicking off on July 26.
Zulu, a 60-kilogram fighter, will be among Team Zambia’s athletes competing at the Summer Games next month, following the latest ranking released by the International Judo Federation (IJF).
The 22-year-old earned automatic qualification for the Summer Games after being ranked among the top 12 judokas in the continental quota.
Zulu, who won gold at the 2024 Hungarian Judo Championships earlier this year, is ranked sixth in Africa with 1,130 points.
Prior to Hungary, Zulu had won bronze at the African Senior Championships in Egypt earlier in April, adding to his Olympic qualification points tally.
Zulu will be the only judoka representing Zambia and Southern Africa at this year’s Olympics.
