A Message from President Hakainde Hichilema:

Must read

Fellow citizens,

Today and tomorrow, we observe Heroes and Unity Day respectively, a solemn occasion we remember the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives during Zambia’s struggle for independence.

We honor the founders of our nation, both known and unknown, who put aside their differences to fight against colonialism and secure our freedom.

We pay tribute to the gallant national team that perished off the coast of Gabon, our armed forces who serve in foreign lands on peacekeeping duties, and the first responders, doctors, nurses, and health workers who risked their lives during the Covid-19 pandemic and the cholera outbreak.

The farmers who relied on ox-drawn carts, wheelbarrows, and various other means of transportation to haul water to their fields during this devastating drought, deserve recognition for their tireless efforts to feed the nation.

We also salute the unsung heroes who have gone unrecognized, but have made significant contributions to our nation.

May God bless their heroism and inspire us all to emulate their courage and selflessness in our own ways.

May we strive to be heroes in our own right, in our various capacities, and may God continue to bless the Republic of Zambia.
