The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has confirmed its suspension of the road user fees increment announced in May.
In a public notice issued today, RTSA states that suspending the upward revision of road user fees is in line with the government’s Drought Response Plan.
“The suspension is with immediate effect, and the previous user fees will remain in place until further notice,” read the notice.
In May, citizens were very displeased with RTSA when it announced an upward revision of road user fees. Many deemed the move insensitive to the very difficult living conditions most Zambians are experiencing amidst the consequences of a harsh drought, including a cost of living crisis.
This prompted the Ministry of Transport and Logistics to direct RTSA to suspend the news fees.
However, some citizens who were charged new fees for services obtained prior to the suspension claim that they have not been refunded for the overpayments.
