Patriotic Front (PF) President Miles Sampa has appealed to Republican President Hakainde Hichilema and former President Edgar Lungu to take the lead in initiating the process of reconciliation between themselves and the nation ultimately.
Sampa held a press briefing today to address various important matters of national interest and recommended the process of reconcilation as one of the solutions needed to end some of the issues affecting the nation.
Sampa said both President Hichilema and his predecessor needed to put their differences aside to usher the spirit of healing and reconciliation into the country.
“The government should be proactive in initiating programs of healing and reconciliation and bridging the chasms of past conflicts. The incumbent President HH and former president ECL need to lead the way and be proactive in reconciling themselves and therefore, the nation” he said.
“No differences are insurmountable. The two are elephants of the nation, and their obvious continuous tiff only makes the rest of the 20 million citizens the grass.”
Sampa further added that he had set the tone for the reconciliation process when he met and settled his scores with former Mr Lungu.
“I played my part and reached out to ECL for what may have been deemed as not so-good a relationship between the two of us. I went and melted the ice in the spirit of uniting the rest of the people who believe in him and also some who believe in myself” he said.
He has since appealed to President Hichilema to reach out to Mr Lungu for reconciliation with the Head of State having already indicated the need for the two parties to dialogue to ease the tensions.
“This is more so for our PF party membership and other non-partisan citizens who look up to either or both of us for hope for a better Zambia. Similarly and as already indicated by President HH, he should reach out to his brother ECL and patch up their differences if any” Sampa added.
The Matero Member of Parliament also disclosed that he intends to engage several players in the political dispensation for the purpose of pacifying any past differences.
“On my part I send an olive branch to all I may have differed with and will reach out to each one to mend bridges for the good of ourselves, houses around us, the party and country at large” he said.
