Zambian champions League Red Arrows have qualified into the semi-finals of the ongoing 2024 Dar Port Kagame CECAFA Cup tournament in Tanzania.
The Airmen secured their place in the last four of the East African regional tournament after seeing off Djiboutian side Ali Sabieh or Djibouti Telecom 1-0 in their final Group B match played at the Azam Sports Complex in Dar-es-Salaam on Tuesday afternoon.
Anthony Shipanuka scored the only goal of the match after he was teed up by Godfrey Ngwenya in 21st minute to send the Airmen past Sabieh who bowed out of the tournament.
Arrows finished second in Group B with 6 points after two wins and will face Sudanese side Hay Al-Wadi FC in the semi-final clash to be played next Friday.
Speaking after the narrow win on Tuesday, Arrows coach Chisi Mbewe said he was delighted with his side’s qualification into the semis and has set his sights on reaching the final.
“We are looking forward to continuing using this tournament for our preseason preparations for the league and CAF Champions League. Going into the semis of the CECAFA and playing in the final will be a huge achievement and add more value to Red Arrows as we get into actual competitions” Mbewe said.
Meanwhile, midfielder Anthony Shipanuka walked away with the Player of the Match Award yesterday which came with a cash prize of K3,000 after his fine performance.
