Police in Lusaka have arrested two individuals for impersonation, forgery, and using false documents.
The arrest at Kabwata police station follows a report from Dr. Prince Kanyinda, a 47-year-old from the University Teaching Hospital (UTH), who reported the suspects for fraudulently posing as medical doctors.
The suspects, Mr. Amon Muchosa, a Zimbabwean claiming to be a sixth-year medical student at the University of Zambia (UNZA), and Ms. Chibwe Kansumba, an Environmental Health Officer with Bharat Serum Vaccine Limited, have been operating at UTH since 2017.
They were found to be illegally prescribing expensive NHIMA pre-authorization services and drugs, according to Zambia Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga.
The fraudulent activities were uncovered after NHIMA questioned UTH about the listed doctors.
UTH management then alerted the police, leading to the suspects’ arrest.
